Sources are saying Russia has fired numerous missiles from both from the Mediterranean Sea and its Khmeimim air base in Syria.

According to sources “multiple projectiles” are inbound to unknown positions within wartorn Syria.

It comes just an hour after a warplane was shot down by Syrian rebels.

Massive explosions have now been reported in a number of coastal areas, as well as Idlib, where the jet was downed.

A swarm of Russian fighter jets are also reportedly heading to the region, with the military targeting rebel-held areas in a fiery retaliation.

According to reports, the Russian Navy fired a barrage of cruise missiles over Idlib.

Russian authorities have said its missiles have wiped out 30 militants in the same region the plane went down.

Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed the jet was hit this afternoon by a MANPAD portable surface-to-air missile during a flight around the de-escalation zone in the province.
