Shooting at school in Benton, Kentucky: High school on lockdown, at least one dead

A SHOOTING at a school in Kentucky has left several people injured, with Marshall County High School in Benton currently on lockdown.

A gunman has opened fire at a school in Benton, Kentucky

At least one person is dead after the gunman is believed to have hit at least five students.

Multiple people are also injured.

The school was placed on lockdown, and authorities said the shooter has now been detained.

Matt Bevin, governor of Kentucky, tweeted: “Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS…Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded…Much yet unknown…Please do not speculate or spread hearsay…Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us…”

Officers were seen leaving the Benton police department office inside City Hall to rush to the scene.

It is the second shooting in the United States in two days, after another incident in Texas yesterday.
