BREAKING: Florida plane crash kills four in Christmas Eve tragedy at Bartow Airport

A PLANE crash at Bartow Municipal Airport in Florida has killed several people.

The twin-engine crashed at the end of the runway at Bartow Municipal Airport near Tampa Bay this morning.

Authorities say several people have been killed.

Emergency services stormed to the scene at 7.20am (local time).

The plane is said have to come down and caught fire, according to reports.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash, but the aircraft is said to have been struggling with visibility at the time due to fog, according to local reports.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department tweeted: “PCSO & @PolkFire on scene of twin-engine plane crash with several deaths near end of runway @ Ben Durrance Rd on Bartow Airbase. Cross street Bomber Rd.

“PIOs setting up media staging. FAA & NTSB enroute. PCSO will do death investigations. More info soon via Media Alert & Twitter.”

The Bartow Municipal Airport is the former location of a US Air Force Base.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration investigators will probe the crash.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office will oversee the investigation.
