Dutch police opened fire after a man threatened to use a knife at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Authorities had to clear the main entrance of the building.
“A man at Schiphol was shot by the military police after threatening with a knife. Situation safe,” the Marechaussee police service said on Twitter.
The suspect was detained and removed from the scene. There were no reports of other injuries.
Schiphol, just outside Amsterdam, is one of Europe’s busiest airports.
“The man threatened with a knife and the military police shot him,” spokesman Stan Verberkt also said. “He was injured and has been taken into custody.”
The immediate area around the incident was closed to the public, but the airport was functioning normally, he said. The terminal has resumed its work.
