The staunch pro-Brexit politician slapped down Mrs May for signing a deal with Brussels that would keep the UK in the EU “in all but name”.

He said: “I am not surprised you are all very pleased with her: Theresa the Appeaser has given in on virtually everything.

“She was all for making as many concessions as she possibly could. It’s as if, even though we are leaving, effectively the British Government wants to keep us in in some form of single market relationship.”

Speaking to MEPs ahead of a key vote on the progress of Brexit talks, Mr Farage said the EU did not have to be concerned about making concessions as Mrs May had already capitulated to Brussels’ demands.

He continued: “She agreed to a ludicrous bill of up to £40bn for us to have the right to leave, a continued role for the European Court of Justice.

“In line with that, she agreed to family reunions that mean – frankly – open door immigration from the European Union is going to continue for years to come. And almost bizarrely, a commitment for ongoing regulatory alignment.”

Mrs May flew to Brussels on December 8 to sign a last-minute deal with EU Commission boss Jean-Claude Juncker in an attempt to convince EU leaders to vote in favour of kickstarting Brexit trade talks at the last 2017 EU Summit.

But despite Mr Farage’s scathing attack, Theresa May is enjoying an instant popularity surge thanks to her breakthrough in the Brexit negotiations.

In a sign of a major recovery after months of political turmoil, the Prime Minister has more than doubled her lead over Jeremy Corbyn as the best choice to lead the country.
