Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that its time for the US government to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities for their refusal to comply with federal immigration laws.

‘It is a very frustrating situation right now,’ Sessions told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Friday, adding that ‘it’s time for this country to get its head on straight.’

‘The federal government and President Trump [are] crystal clear: We are doing everything possible to get these cities to reverse these policies.’

In the US and Canada, sanctuary cities limit their cooperation with national governments to enforce immigration laws, reducing the fear of illegal migrants to report crimes, use health and social services, and enroll their children in school.

The sanctuary city issue resurfaced this week after a San Francisco jury acquitted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 45, of murder and manslaughter charges in connection with the July 1, 2015, death of Kate Steinle.
