Ri Sun-kyong, who settled in South Korea in 2002, called on US President Donald Trump’s help as he heads on his 12-day tour of Asia.

North Korea is expected to feature heavily in his conversations with the region’s leaders.

With Trump on the plane to Japan at the moment, a North Korean defector has pleaded with the president to start an “insurgency” to end the Kim regime.

Ri told Voice of America: “North Korea’s a country bent on making nuclear weapons and missiles to prepare for a war, so it’s disinterested in its citizens.

“For North Koreans to live peacefully, it’ll take an insurgency against the regime to bring about a revolution.

“Every single country in the world should not help North Korea in any way.

“Instead, they should increase pressure so an insurgency takes place.”

Ri added she wants to one day return to her home country.

But this won’t be possible with dictator Kim still in charge.

She continued: “I look forward to the day the North becomes a country of prosperity for its people.”

This isn’t the first defector to speak out this week.

Eunhee Park fled the dictatorship eight years ago for a new life in Australia.

She spoke out about the shocking abuse of citizens and baffling rules forced upon the population.
