USS South Dakota is set to join Donald Trump’s massive fleet as the threat of nuclear war looms over the world.

The £2 billion ($2.7 billion) Virginia-class fast attack submarine is due to be launched before entering active service next August.

Nearly 400 feet long and weighing 7800 tons, the warship has been touted as a game changer.

Its launch comes as the Pentagon readies for the threat of North Korea, and continues to keep pace with the militaries of Russia and China.

Yesterday, it emerged three aircraft carriers have now entered the west Pacific in an unprecedented show of force to Kim Jong-un.

The high-tech submarine was christened earlier this month, and will join the US Navy’s fleet of 70 submarines.

It will be one of 17 in its class, but is being boasted as the most advanced of the bunch.

USS South Dakota will be bristling with cruise missiles, high-tech spy gear and be able to deploy US Navy SEALs.

US Navy spokesman Lt. Seth Clark described the sub as having “acoustic superiority” over any other vessel in the world, reports CNN.

This means it is quieter than any other submarine.

Lt. Clark added the submarine will “increase our under-sea domain advantage, ensuring our dominance through the mid-century and beyond”.
