The eye of Storm Brian is moving onto Britain after passing over Ireland with raging winds up to 70mph.

The Irish weather service, Met Éireann, issued an orange weather warning in places across the island, saying: “It will be extremely windy in the south and west this morning with stormy conditions around coasts and the risk of flooding”.

Authorities in the UK have been put on high alert after the churning weather front caused sever flooding in the west of Ireland.

Strong winds are now expected to cover most of Wales as well as the southern, western and central parts of England.

The true danger posed by the incoming weather front is now revealed in drastic photos taken along the UK coastline.

Hair-rising pictures snapped along the Porthlevenen seafront in Cornwall, reveal powerful waves crashing into the coast with brute force.

Elsewhere on the southern edge of England, the Newhaven Lighthouse was completely dwarfed by the sheer size of the waves crashing around it.

Similar scenes took place in other coastal areas, such as Brighton, where the rough sea looked incredibly intimidating.
