Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei said the Trump administration is angry with Tehran for disrupting their plans in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

He added that “it is not acceptable for the Zionist regime to violate Syria any time it wants”.

It comes at a time of increased tensions between the two nations – after Donald Trump ruled out re-signing Barack Obama’s nuclear weapons agreement with the Islamic Republic.

Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the EU all begged the firebrand tycoon to sign off the deal.

And Iran threatened the US with “retaliation” if Trump took any action, even vowing to destroy Israel if the agreement was ripped up.

But Trump still decided to unveil his tough new strategy to “combat” America’s old enemy.

Khamenei also hit out at Europe, saying Tehran would not accept pressure from European countries over its regional policy and missile programme.

“The Europeans’ following of America’s bullying policy is not acceptable for Iran,” he said.

In his debut speech at the UN, Trump called Iran “a corrupt dictatorship” and said the deal was “the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into”.

Iran claims it is developing nuclear weapons purely for defensive purposes.

But Washington has accused Iran of “malign activities” across the Middle East, including a recent missile test.
