President Donald Trump began his first speech to the UN Tuesday with a vow to ‘destroy’ North Korea’s Kim Jong-un if his regime threatens the United States, as he talked up the ‘vast military power’ of the United States.

‘Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime,’ Trump warned gathered world leaders, picking up a derisive term from one of his tweets over the weekend.

Trump began his remarks at the United Nations with a brash statement of U.S. military might as he defended his ‘America first’ agenda to a group of world leaders.

‘As president of the United States I will always put America first just like you the leaders of your countries will always and should always put your countries first,’ Trump said.

‘It has just been announced that we will be spending almost $700 billion on our military and defense,’ Trump said world leaders who gathered to hear his debut remarks at an institution he has blasted in the past.

‘Our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been.’

He also talked up the U.S. economy.

‘Fortunately, the United States has done very well since election day,’ Trump said, earning his first faint applause for that line about 15 minutes into his speech.

‘It has just been announced that we will be spending almost $700 billion on our military and defense.

‘Our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been,’ Trump said near the top of his remarks.

Trump tore into Kim Jong-un’s regime while North Korea’s place in the front row at the world body stood empty.
