Any attempt to launch military action by the US would be met with a devastating response by North Korea – potentially killing up to 265,000 people.

Defence analysts warned a pre-emptive strike against the rogue state is now off the table due to Kim’s nukes.

Consequences of military action against North Korea would be an inevitable nuclear strike on Los Angeles, Seoul or Tokyo, experts warned.

War fears have been ratcheted up after Kim detonated his first H-bomb, prompting the White House to warn Pyongyang of “total annihilation”.

Defence expert Harry Kazianis, director of defence studies at the Centre for the National Interest, said any military action on North Korea would have horrific consequences for the US, South Korea, and Japan.

He said while the US could wipeout large swathes of Kim’s nuclear bases, unless they have “100% success rates” the risk of military action is far too high.

Mr Kazianis said all it takes is for just one nuclear weapon to survive an initial attack by the US for Kim launch a devastating counter strike.

He said: “There is not going to be a military strike by the Trump administration on North Korea because the problem is this.

“They would target the nuclear facilities and the nuclear weapons, but you need a 100% success rate to make that viable.

“If Kim Jong-in survived that attack with just one or two nuclear weapons, you know what he is going to do, he is going to drop one either on Seoul, Tokyo or Los Angeles.”
