Idaho is rocked by 5.3 magnitude earthquake with tremors felt as far away as Salt Lake City

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit southeastern Idaho on Saturday before 6pm
It hit about 17 miles east from the city of Soda Springs, Idaho
The tremors could be felt in Salt Lake City, Utah, around 200 miles away
Soda Springs is close to Yellowstone National Park, which has had a record-breaking 2,300 earthquakes since June

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit southeastern Idaho on Saturday about 17 miles east from the city of Soda Springs, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The organization said the quake was 6.2 miles deep and that it occurred shortly before 6pm.

Tremors from the earthquake could be felt as far away as Salt Lake City, Utah, which is nearly 200 miles away.

Another earthquake hit the area just a few minutes later, but it was much smaller than the first, measuring at a 3.2 magnitude.

The region experienced six aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 3.2 to 4.1.

The Caribou County Sheriff’s Office have not received any reports of injury or damage as of about 6.30pm, reported Fox 13.
