North Korea fired a rocket over Japan as it tested its latest developments, feared by many to be for potential use on the United States.
However, despite a tense war of words between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump, Japan has warned Europe it is also in Pyongyang’s sights.
Standing alongside Theresa May, Shinzo Abe said North Korea “has become a global threat” with its missile tests.
He said: “North Korea, they’ve conducted two missile launch, of the class of intercontinental ballistic missile.
That threat is felt not only by our country or Asia alone, it has become a global threat including Europe.
“In other words, North Korea will launch ICBMs and the range will include almost the entire region of Europe – it has become a global threat.
“With Prime Minister May, on the question of North Korea, we spent a good amount of time and I was able to have a good exchange of opinion.
“From that point of view, we were able to issue a joint statement regarding North Korea.”
