Seoul is currently training special forces units to infiltrate Pyongyang and hunt down the dictator and his closest advisers.

If war breaks out specialist troops have been given orders to assassinate the despot.

And the military has also been ordered to upgrade its air defences, as well as improve its ability to carry out airborne and sea landings.

The plan comes after despotic leader Kim Jong-un was photographed smiling manically during the launch of North Korea’s latest missile test amid fears South Korea could be the next target.

With tensions escalating the proposals to improve Seoul’s military capabilities are part of South Korea’s revised strategy of dealing with the possibility of an attack from North Korea.

Moon Jae-in, the South Korean president, was briefed by Defence Ministry officials on Monday about the new proposals – a day before North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan.

And he ordered his team to implement the reforms to the military immediately, in order to meet the threat being posed by the enemy state.

He added the military must be ready to “quickly switch to an offensive posture in case North Korea stages a provocation that crosses the line or attacks the capital region”, according to the Chosun Ilbo newspaper.
