US & South Korea joint military exercise to go ahead despite North Korea threats

A JOINT exercise involving the US and South Korean militaries is set to go ahead as planned despite soaring tensions between Pyongyang and Washington.

The Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercise, which is conducted annually, is expected to go ahead as orignially planned and will begin on August 21, according to Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Logan.

The exercise could stoke tensions between North Korea and its neighbours, with Kim Jong-un previously criticising the close relationship between Seoul and Washington.
