President Trump warned Kim Jong-un’s state that they would face “fire and fury the like of which the world has never seen” in response to North Korea developing nuclear weapons.

After the President’s remarks, North Korea said it was “carefully examining” plans to strike territories of the US, such as Guam which is home to approximately 6,000 US troops and is about 2,100 miles from North Korea.

Speaking on Emma Barnett’s Radio 5 Live show, Conservative MP, Matt Warman insisted that Kim Jong-un was the problem.

He said: “I don’t think it is rhetoric that is going to solve this crisis… This is an incredibly serious issue that is best tackled through the United Nations.

“Donald Trump has a unique and popular way of expressing himself but that is not what is going to tackle this issue it is ultimately North Korea that is the problem here.

“It is not Donald Trump’s rhetoric, it is North Korea that has behaved in a way that has escalated things far beyond the kind of behaviour that we thought we were going to expect from Kim Jong-un when he first came into power.

“I think we should be clear that the UN is the route in which we solve these problems, if we possibly can save it and we also have to be very clear that the reason we saw total anonymity at the UN is that there is widespread international recognition that it is North Korea that is the problem here.”

The Conservative political also argued that the Prime Minister would be able to privately speak to President Trump if the UK felt it needed to step in.
