A group of Californians is campaigning for the independence of the state from the United States.
The Vice-President of the California Freedom Coalition Shankar Singam said that Californians deserved to cast their vote on whether they wanted to remain part of the US considering the “differences” between the two.
“This is California, we are not the United States. The values are different. We’re fundamentally different in the way we act, we speak and how we think about the world.”
Speaking to Tucker Carlson on Fox News, Singam argued that the group was seeking a “non-hostile” solution to address ideological differences that would justify secession.
“What we’ve been hearing is that we’re nothing but a burden to the United States.”
“We’re gonna do things that are going to be beneficial for our state and we disregard what the United States thinks or even their loss.”
Singam said that the Golden State is an “economic powerhouse” and claimed it was the “fifth economy in the world.”
