Several members of French ruling party En Marche! have accused President Emmanuel Macron and party directors of going against the root values of the movement by trying to change the internal guidelines regulating the candidates’ selection process.
Speaking to France 24, Tiphanie Beaulieu discussed the 534 complaints she had collected from En Marche! members in Normandy about the treatment they were being subjected to by the central directory of the party.
“We took part in the “grande marche”. We were very useful at one point. Now we’re being ignored. We’re treated with disdain when we propose our services.”
Beaulieu expressed her concerns about her ability to cast her vote in future online consultations promoted by the party as she and several members have repeatedly been denied access to the En Marche! website since she and her group Les Marcheurs en Colère (The Angry Marchers) began to “make a fuss” over the direction adopted by the party.
“They told me there shouldn’t be a problem and that I’m not blacklisted. We’re going to trust them but stay vigilant.”
The issue of access to the website is of particular concern as party members are currently in the process of voting for the new statutes proposed to regulate the structure and governance system of the party.
The statutes are a particular bone of contention between En Marche! directors and its supporters as the party only provided an email summary of the proposals.
Also speaking to France 24, local Campaign Organiser Benoit Menard complained that the electronic three-page document was “not enough” and that he wanted to be given access to the full statutes in order to analyse the suggested changes personally.
