The U.S. Pacific Fleet commander would be willing to nuke China next week – provided the President ordered him to do so.
Admiral Scott Swift also warned that any country whose military is not bound by civilian control has ‘a really significant problem.’
Adm. Scott made the statement during a question and answer session at an Australian National University security conference on Thursday.
The conference came after a major joint training exercise by the Australian and American navies which was closely monitored by Chinese vessels.
Asked by an academic in the audience whether he would make a nuclear attack on China next week if Trump ordered it, Swift replied: ‘The answer would be: Yes.’
