The president’s incoming White House communications director confirmed Wednesday that the Department of Justice is initiating a government-wide crackdown on leaking.

Anthony Scaramucci told CNN that he’s working with Attorney General Jeff Sessions to craft an inter-agency plan to ‘uproot some of these leakers.’

A Washington Post report on Tuesday evening said Justice’s investigation will look at the leaking of sensitive intelligence.

Scaramucci’s not officially on the job yet, but he’s already taken his first casualty in his war on leaks within the White House. A mid-level press aide resigned on Tuesday after Scaramucci told a reporter the staffer would soon be fired.

In an interview with Chris Cuomo this morning on CNN Scaramucci apologized for the miscommunication and revealed that his marching orders came directly from the president.

Playing a little bit coy, Scaramucci said someone above him wanted the press assistant gone.

‘I also report to somebody, if he asks me to do something I’m gonna go do it,’ Scaramucci said.

A press release announcing the former hedge funder’s hiring says Scaramucci ‘will report directly to the President.’

That leaves but one person with the power to direct Scaramucci to fire anyone.

Scaramucci didn’t want to say that President Donald Trump asked him to fire the press aide, Michael Short, who had reportedly left the campaign on bad terms only to be hired at the White House along with fellow Republican National Committee press staff.

‘I didn’t answer the question, Chris. You see, i’m getting so subtle and surgical,’ Scaramucci said when pressed.
Cuomo pushed him to be straight, like he promised he’d be, and Scaramucci replied, ‘I’m being straight – I’m straightly, straightly not answering your question. ‘

The CNN host wouldn’t let up. Scaramucci finally told him, ‘I’ve already answered it. You’re just not really a derivative thinker. I said somebody above my rank. Go read the press release.’

Scaramucci is supposed to begin his post on August 15, but he has already become a fixture at the White House. He’s been operating out of a corner office in the West Wing since news broke that he’d been hired, and he’s been joining the president on out-of-state trips.

His first order of business has been to aggressively attack the leaking that has paralyzed this presidency.
