RUSSIA has paraded a terrifying nuclear submarine in a warning to Vladimir Putin’s Western enemies.

The country’s fearful military toy was flaunted as part of its Russian Navy Day celebrations today.

The Dmitriy Donskoy (TK-208) nuclear ballistic missile submarine arrived at St Petersburg today to take part in the ship parade.

Shocking photographs showed the huge sub shrouded in mist as dozens of crew members were dwarfed by the sheer size of Russia’s vessel.

The sub was launched in 1980 and was upgraded significantly in 2002.

She was named after Dmitry Donskoy, a Grand Duke from the 14th century who is believed to have founded Moscow.

The powerful sub, which boasts 20 ballistic missiles, carried out successful test launches as recently as 2010. Its display in today’s ship parade is a pointed reminder to the West of Russia’s military might from Vladimir Putin.

And it comes amid a rapid modernisation of Russia’s army, which has seen high-ranking officials take part in blunt sabre-rattling in recent months.

Earlier this month Dmitry Rogozin, one of Russia’s eight deputy prime ministers, provocatively claimed the US’s defence shield now poses “no serious military risk”.

He said Russia’s new inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) could “rip apart” their rivals anti-missile systems.
