The former Ukip leader spoke in response to radio caller and Brexiteer Steve on his LBC radio after he said he had his doubts that the EU exit would ever happen.

The MEP said MPs would see a public outcry the scale of which has not been seen before.

Mr Farage said: “I think there would be very large scale public anger, much more Steve than anybody inside the confines of Westminster can even believe.

“My experience is that if you took the sort of average passion level of a Leave voter against a Remain voter, it was much much stronger, much more visceral on the Leave side.

“And that anger will manifest itself in some way and by that I mean they will start voting again for different political parties.”

He said the “two-party” result seen at the last General Election would be at threat once more.

The politician said: “We’ve seen a fragmentation to some degree of British politics, what we saw in this election post-Brexit was a return to two-party politics.

“That could break very very quickly if you’re prediction that Brexit won’t have happened by the next election comes true.”
