As the threat of nuclear war creeps ever closer amid the rising tensions between North Korea and the US, Hawaii is preparing its residents for a missile attack.

The campaign, by Aloha State’s Emergency Management Agency, will see regular Cold War-style evacuation drills for schools on the Hawaiian islands.

An emergency siren will also be tested, along with public announcements that state: ‘Get inside, stay inside, and stay tuned,’ according to the Honolulu Star Advertiser.

The siren will sound on the first work day of every month.

‘We need to tell the public what the state is doing,’ agency chief Vern Miyagi said. ‘We do not want to cause any undue stress for the public; however, we have a responsibility to plan for all hazards.’

Tourism officials have warned that the move could be disastrous to the state’s biggest source of income, as a popular vacation spot.
