South Korea held the drill in Cheorwon, mere miles from the border with the North, to prepare for an invasion.

Images from the exercise showed a tank with its turret lit up by shellfire and troops advancing in step.

And it’s only days since South Korea held a live-fire exercise in Pohang to prepare troops for war.

Earlier this month North Korea tested a missile capable of reaching the US state of Alaska.

Kim Jong-un now boasts that nuking both the US and South Korea is a piece of cake.

So it’s perhaps no surprise that Seoul is flexing its muscles and displaying its military might.

Just this week Moon Jae-in, President of the South, announced plans for a multi-billion pound defence splurge.

He told ministers and commanders he wanted defence spending boosted from 2.4% to 2.9% of GDP, an estimated rise of £5.28billion.

“The new administration seeks dialogue with North Korea, but it would be meaningless without overwhelming defence capabilities,” he said.

“Defence is a matter of survival of the nation. Defence and national security is all the more important as North Korea continues its provocations.”
