THE US is bracing itself for an apocalyptic ending to its confrontation with North Korea by rehearsing a nuclear attack.

North Korea just tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of hitting the US state of Alaska.

And the secretive state shows no signs of stopping there, apparently determined to increase their reach.

So the US is taking no chances and is about to test its own defences with a missile strike dry run.

It will test its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system against a intermediate-range missile.

The system works by firing rockets of its own, which are designed to intercept incoming missiles and destroy them.

And though the US has a THAAD system deployed in South Korea, the one that’s being tested in the coming days will be in Alaska.

Further THAAD interceptors are deployed in Guam – a Pacific island under Washington’s control and the closest US territory to North Korea.
