Hank Greely, the director of Stanford University’s Law School’s Center for Law and the Biosciences, says that couples will have a range of embryos created in a laboratory from their DNA.
The embryo is created by taking skin cells from the female which can be used to make stem cells, then ultimately the eggs.
The eggs are then fertilised which would result in several embryos which are then screened, allowing experts to see if they are prone to any diseases.
However, Mr Greely says that by doing this, parents will also be able to pick features such as hair colour and eye colour.
While this process is already possible, the Stanford professor says that it will be much cheaper in 30 years and that a lot of people would be willing to do it.
Speaking at the Aspen Ideas Festive, Mr Greely said: “People, particularly where I live in Silicon Valley, will want to do it to get their perfect egg.”
He added: “I don’t think we’re going to be able to say this embryo will get a 1550 on its two-part SAT.
