The gunman who opened fire on a group of congressmen and their staffers on Wednesday morning at a baseball practice session in Alexandria, Virginia, had ‘an assassination list of Republicans’ in his pocket.

James T Hodgkinson gunned down five people, including GOP House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, as they practiced for a charity baseball game at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park.

On Thursday, the FBI recovered the list of names, which suggests the shooting was a premeditated political assassination, according to Fox News.

Sources told Fox that the list was written on notepad paper and found in the shooter’s pocket. The list of names reportedly included Alabama Rep Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep Trent Franks.

Since the discovery, the FBI contacted Franks, who confirmed to Fox that he’s involved in the investigation.

The congressmen are all members of the House Freedom Caucus, which contains the lower chamber’s most conservative members.
Both Duncan and Brooks attended Wednesday’s baseball practice.

Other names on the list included Tennessee Rep Scot DesJarlais, Ohio Rep Jim Jordan and Virginia Rep Morgan Griffith.

Duncan told WSPA-TV that a man asked him if it was the Republican or Democrat team practicing, and Duncan told him it was the Republicans.

Shortly after the shooting, Duncan posted on Facebook that he had left the baseball practice early to catch a meeting.

‘I believe I saw the shooter and am in the process of giving a statement to the police,’ he added.

Brooks was still on the field when Hodgkinson began shooting.

Hodgkinson died after being shot by a member of Scalise’s security detail.

US Capitol Police said on Thursday that the 9mm handgun and 7.62 caliber rifle believed to have been used by Hodkinson to shoot Scalise and three others as they practiced for a baseball game were purchased legally.
