Crowds surround May chanting ‘coward’ as she announces £5m fund for Grenfell Tower victims

THERESA May was confronted by angry crowds as she visited a church near the Grenfell Tower as protests break out at Kensington Town Hall.

Theresa May was pictured visiting St Clement’s Church as crowds surrounded the building.

During her visit residents were chanting “get her out” as police held back the angry crowd.

At least 30 people died when fire broke out at the tower block in north Kensington shortly before 1am on Wednesday morning.

The Prime Minister met the group of victims, residents, volunteers and community leaders at St Clement’s Church close to the scene of the horrific blaze shortly before 5pm.

One woman wept saying it was because the Prime Minister declined to speak to anyone outside the meeting which lasted less than hour.

Police broke up a scuffle between members of the crowd as the Mrs May’s car drove off.

One furious resident told reporters: “I want her to come out her and face us. What are you doing here on Friday? I lost my home on Tuesday, people lost their lives on Tuesday.

Channel 4 News anchor Krishnan Guru-MurthyVerified account said: “Shocking scenes as Theresa May bundled into a car by police amid fury from the pushing crowd.”
