John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, is attempting to rally the troops in a display of Labour’s popularity and new-found support.

He urged people to “get out on the streets” to spread the party’s ‘for the many and not the few’ message.

It is thought if pressure builds, weak prime minster Mrs May will be forced to call another election as she clings to power.

Mr McDonnell said: “We need people doing everything they can to ensure the election comes as early as possible.”

Currently Theresa May is trying to secure a deal with the Northern Ireland DUP party, a controversial move for the public who are wary of their policies and the sweeteners likely to be sacrificed to ensure their support.

Several let-wing groups are planning a mass protest on July 1 in an attempt to send a strong message to the incumbent and her “terrorists”, referring to the DUP.

Speaking at the annual conference of the food-workers union the BFAWU, the Labour politician called on the TUC (Trades Union Congress) – which represents 50 unions – to galvanise its members to join the protest.

He said: “What we need now is the TUC mobilised, every union mobilised, get out on the streets.
