A new book has provided shocking details of how America’s military and political elites will survive nuclear Armageddon while millions of ordinary people and their families are incinerated of subjected to radiation poisoning.

As a result of the Cold War, US military planners devised a strategy to keep those needed to control the government and the military safe in the event of a Soviet attack.

The plan involved the excavation of massive bomb-proof shelters across the nation where the president and his administration could flee, along with military leaders.

Some of the shelters, such as the Norad complex in Colorado are well known, but fewer know about the Raven Rock complex, near Camp David, which was designed as a safe haven for the Commander-in-Chief in the event of an attack while he was at his retreat.

Journalist Garrett Graff, who has written Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself While the Rest of Us Die, shows that some of the Cold War-era precautions are still in place today, such as the daily flights in Washington by the 1st Helicopter Squadron, code-named ‘Mussel’, who use a blue-and-gold chopper.

The helicopter, according to Graff’s research, is tasked with taking senior administration officials to safety in advance of an attack.

The squadron’s remit, according to Graff, now includes responding to terrorist attacks.
