Former Newsnight correspondent and Channel 4 economics editor Paul Mason said communities had been “f***** over” by Theresa May’s government.
He said Labour policies had been key in stopping the Conservatives from winning a majority in the House of Commons.
In a video posted to Twitter, Mason said: “We have shown the British people that if you stand up for the poorest, for the downtrodden for people whose communities have been f***** over and completely destroyed over a period of 30 years…
“They [the voters] just think ‘f*** it, no, we want the money, we want the £9,000, we want the £9 a week for school dinners, we want a bit of dignity, we want £10 an hour’.”
“And you know what? We’re surrounded by all these colleagues in the media and they don’t understand a f******, a f******* single iota of what I’ve just said.”
The commentator said the Labour party now had a “big responsibility” in holding on to former Green Party and Ukip voters, insisting “we mustn’t f*** it up”.
Speaking before him was the shadow chancellor, who was asked if his party had “smashed it”.
“We said if we get the policies right, a right manifesto, set out what people need, we could win it, that’s what we’re doing,” he replied.
