Donald Trump doubled down Monday on his attack on London’s mayor, saying journalists are helping Sadiq Khan ‘sell’ his call for a city-wide deep breath after the weekend’s terror attack.
‘Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his “no reason to be alarmed” statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!’ the president tweeted.
Trump drew widespread criticism for tweeting criticism of Khan for telling Britons to keep calm and carry on after three jihadis ran over a crowd of people and stabbed several others before being shot dead.
Khan was referring to an increased police presence in the British capital when he said there was ‘no reason to be alarmed.’
The mayor had earlier condemned the attacks as ‘barbaric’ and ‘cowardly.’
On Monday he responded to Trump’s latest tweet, saying through a spokesman: ‘Nothing has changed since yesterday. The Mayor is focused on dealing with Saturday’s horrific and cowardly attack and working with the police, the emergency services and the Government to keep London safe.’
