Brits took to Twitter to mock claims by the New York Times that the nation was ‘reeling’ from terror attacks.
In their coverage of the London stabbings, the American newspaper’s headline read: ‘Terrorist attacks in the heart of London leave 6 dead in a nation still reeling.’
But furious users on Twitter hit out to say that, while Britain was undoubtedly mourning, it was determined to keep calm and carry on.
Author J.K. Rowling said that claiming a nation was ‘reeling’ played straight into the hands of terrorists.
Posting on Twitter, Rowling said: ‘The thugs who mowed down innocent people would love to think of the UK ‘reeling’ but it isn’t. Don’t confuse grief with lack of courage.’
ournalist Jason Cowley said: ‘London is the city of the Blitz. Absurd and scandalous to suggest Londoners are reeling or scared. Mourning the dead, yes.’
The hashtag #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling was trending for most of Sunday.
