He turned his attention to two young women, one of whom was wearing a hijab
After the suspect attacked the victims, he reportedly said, ‘This is free America, I can do whatever I want’ before running away from the Hollywood transit station

The 21-year-old who survived after intervening in a white supremacist’s deadly hate attack on a Portland train has written a poem from his hospital bed about the harrowing experience.
Micah David-Cole Fletcher was the third bystander who tried to intervene when Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, launched an ‘anti-Muslim’ tirade on two women on Friday.
Fletcher was stabbed in the neck, allegedly by Christian, with the blade missing his jugular by millimeters.
Rick Best, a Portland employee and retired Army platoon sergeant who served for 23 years, and 23-year-old Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, died in the attack.
