British Airways has cancelled all flights from London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports due to a global IT outage Saturday. The airline said it is “working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible,” and has denied rumors of a cyber attack.
RT contacted British Airways for comment. A company representative dismissed the cyberattack rumors, blaming “system failure” for the chaos. The company has not yet determined the cause of the outage, the representative said.
“Currently the only information that we have is that the systems are out because of the system outage,” the representative told RT. “More information will be available with us by evening, around 5 or 6 in the evening.”
“Basically, we’re unable to get any information, data related to the passenger flights,” he added.
Heathrow tweeted a statement confirming that all BA flights scheduled to take off from London’s two main airports before 6pm local time have been cancelled.
