BREAKING: Friars Walk in Newport evacuated – shoppers report explosion
A SHOPPING centre in Newport has been evacuated by police after a suspicious vehicle was discovered.

Gwent Police have shut Friars Walk over the incident.
Reports suggest armed police have been seen in the area.
A police cordon is in place and people are being urged to stay away from the area.
Gwent Police tweeted: “We are dealing with an incident in #FriarsWalk in #Newport following a report of a suspicious vehicle. Please avoid the area at this time.
“Specialist officers have been deployed to the scene and there is cordon in place as a safety precaution.”
Shoppers reported scenes of chaos.
Jon Roberts wrote on Twitter: “The shops/restaurants were evacuated, armed police shut the road in front and traffic at a standstill.”
The situation comes after the national security level was upgrading to critical in the wake of the Manchester terror attack on Monday night.
