A police cordon is in place and people are being urged to stay away from the area at Friars Walk in Newport, Wales.

Cops confirmed there was an ongoing incident and traffic cordons are in place.

There are now reports of an explosion being heard from the shopping centre.

Police have denied a controlled explosion has taken place – but said their officers have “smashed a window” on a vehicle.

Cops have now confirmed a second object has been found, some 20 minutes away at George Street Bridge.

Gwent Police said: ‘We are dealing with an incident in #FriarsWalk in #Newport following a report of a suspicious vehicle.

“Specialist officers have been deployed to the scene and there is cordon in place as a safety precaution.”
