The DEFense readiness CONdition (DEFCON) is an alert system used by the United States Armed Forces, and is widely regarded as a reliable gage of global tensions.
An alert issued on Tuesday has identified a myriad of threats which could destabilise world peace.
A statement issued by the warning system said: “There are events occurring in the world theater which require closer monitoring.”
The situation in North Korea is imploding, and the statement warned the situation could “erupt with little warning”.
It said: “The United States and North Korea continue to face off, with tensions continuing to escalate.
“Many assets have been moved into the area, and North Korea continues to advance its nuclear program.
“A North Korean missile has successfully re-entered the atmosphere, a significant step in its ICBM tech.
“North Korea is also building artificial islands and installing military installations on them.”
The two countries are currently engaging in a war of words and posturing against each other, with US Donald Trump sending what he described as an ‘armada’ into Korean waters.
The USS Carl Vinson was deployed in the Korean peninsula, alongside the USS Michigan, a nuclear-powered submarine armed with guided Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Despotic leader Kim Jong-un issued damning threats to the US, reportedly saying: “The moment the USS Michigan tries to budge even a little, it will be doomed to face the miserable fate of becoming a underwater ghost without being able to come to the surface.
“Whether it’s a nuclear aircraft carrier or a nuclear submarine, they will be turned into a mass of scrap metal in front of our invincible military power centred on the self-defence nuclear deterrence.”
