North Korean propaganda said foreign diplomats were lectured about the plot at a briefing in Kim’s capital, Pyongyang.

They were told that “heinous terrorists” out to kill Kim had entered the country from the US and South Korea.

And the plotters were armed with a “biochemical substance” said vice-foreign minister, Han Song-ryol.

Mr Han then called for the diplomats to rally the “peace-loving people of the world” behind Kim.

The foreign office confirmed to Daily Star Online that UK ambassador Alistair Morgan was among those present.

According to propaganda, the lecture in Pyongyang’s People’s Palace of Culture was well received by the world’s diplomats.

“[They] expressed deep concern about such attempted heinous terrorism and understanding of North Korea’s principled stand,” the article said.

Despite the claims, Mr Morgan has previously been outspoken about North Korea, calling it the “last remaining Stalinist country”.

In a Foreign Office video last year, he said: “It is a country where the Worker’s Party of Korea is in complete control.

“It has a monolithic system of leadership under Kim Jong-un and every aspect of life in the country is controlled.

“One of the first things you see when you go, is that the entire public space is given over to propaganda.”
