Newly minted acting FBI director Andrew McCabe’s wife ran for office in Virginia as a Democrat in 2015, helped by hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations steered by Gov. Terry McAuliffe – a longtime Bill and Hillary Clinton fundraiser and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
And that’s just fine, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday morning on CNN, since it shows President Donald Trump isn’t politicizing the bureau by firing former director Jim Comey.
‘Why wouldn’t that make the critics happy?’ Conway asked on the ‘New Day’ program. ‘His wife ran for political office as a Democrat. It’s not personal.’
McCabe will ‘oversee’ the continuing investigation into the Trump orbit’s ties to Russia, Conway said. ‘He’s obviously very familiar with the investigations that are going on there.’
