Top European Union chief appoints 43 new ambassadors to push Brussels’ agenda worldwide
THE European Union is rolling-out a host of new ambassadors in a bid to push its agenda around the world.

A total of 43 new ambassadors have been appointed to embassies around the globe, including far-flung locations such as Swaziland, by EU high representative Federica Mogherini.
The union’s top diplomat has granted the appointments, which need the approval of national governments, which include representatives in Russia, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Argentina.
The new Brussels representatives include seasoned diplomats, national diplomats and EU high-flyers.
But the most sizeable promoting is for Esmerelda Hernandez Aragones who will move from European External Action Service desk officer for Southern Africa to the ambassador for Swaziland.
Markus Ederer will become ambassador to Moscow – he was previously ambassador to China so should be used to dealing with large countries with diametrically opposed views to Brussels’.
Peteris Ustubs, a Latvian member of Mogherini’s cabinet, is being made the ambassador to Canada.
Paolo Berizzi will leave the cabinet of Commissioner Neven Mimica to become ambassador to Paraguay.
Michael Mann, a Briton who spent five years as Catherine Ashton’s spokesman when she was the EU’s high representative, is set to become ambassador to Iceland.
