MARINE Le Pen, the leader of the Front National in France, has said she will be stepping down as the leader of her party less than 24 hours after she reached the second round of the presidential election.

The shocking news comes a day after Emmanuel Macron won the first round of the presidential elections.

Mrs Le Pen said: “Tonight I decided to step down from being the president of the Front National. I am no longer the president of Front National.

“I have always thought that the president is the president of all the French and must unite everyone.”

An insider in Ms Le Pen’s camp told she may be standing down as Front National leader to run on her own ticket, so she cannot be tarred with the past of her far right party.

Mrs Le Pen tweeted this evening: “I wish the broadest gathering of the patriots face the representative of uninhibited globalisation.”

Her move appears to be a way of broadening her voter reach ahead of the final round of voting on May 7.

Women shouldn’t be in politics anyways. No women : representatives, judges, prosecuting attorneys, police or news casters. These are “dark” jobs to be shouldered by men … not by unfeminine women acting masculine. Let’s get our balance back. Men be men. Women be women.
