The new law is aimed at extending and improving veterans’ capability of choosing a doctor.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a new healthcare bill that will extend the choice and ensure better medical care for veterans in the United States.

“I am pleased to sign into law the Veteran’s Choice Program Improvement Act,” Trump stated at the White House. “This bill will extend and improve the veterans’ choice program, so more veterans can see the doctor of their choice and don’t have to wait and travel long distances for VA care.”

Trump noted that enacting the bill was “a good start,” but acknowledged there is much work ahead with respect to veterans’ healthcare reform.
The president stressed that veterans have not been taken care of properly and pledged to bring about additional positive changes.

    “Veterans Choice”
As far as I’m concerned it’s a scam.

When it first came out I enrolled in it. On my next visit to the VA hospital (2 and a half hour drive each way) I asked about using a local doctor and was informed that “yes” I could use a local doctor under the Veterans choice program, but I would have to pay the doctor fees! I could do that anyway, so why did we need some “new” program using up tax payers money?
About a year later veterans choice called me and said that since I had to drive more than 40 miles I qualified for the program and asked why I wasn’t using it. I explained what I was told and was informed that it was incorrect. Ok, so we set up an appointment with a local doctor via veterans choice for a preliminary checkup. The doctor asked when my last colonoscopy was (I’m over 60 years old), I told him it was about 5 years and that I had some polyps removed, so it was about time for another. He said he would set me up with a local doctor to do the colonoscopy. A few weeks later I called the other doctor to see why I had not been called with an appointment. The nurse said they were waiting on Veterans Choice, and I needed to call them. I called Veterans Choice and they told me that they were working on it and THEY would call me when they had my appointment set up. (rather forcefully)
A year later I get a call from Veterans choice. It seems I had “fell through” some kind of “crack” and they would get right to work on it! A week later I get an appoitment at the VA hospital (2.5 hours away) for a consultation – for a colonoscopy! A week later I returned to the VA hospital (2.5 hours away) for the procedure. It’s been well over a month since then. Still no call from veterans choice!

President Trump would have done better DE-funding them and putting the money on the economy, in my opinion!!
