The family of the 74-year-old man whose murder was filmed and posted on Facebook have warned supporters not to donate to any GoFundMe pages that have already been set, because they are fake.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said during a press conference on Monday that multiple crowd-funding pages had been set up in Robert Godwin’s name, but that none of them were legitimate.

Godwin’s family told Williams that they planned to make an announcement later in the day for people interested in making a donation in the retired foundry worker’s name.

As of Monday morning, there appeared to be at least two GoFundMe accounts set up in Godwin’s name.

One of the accounts claimed to be started by a daughter of Godwin, while the other was started by a ‘niece’.

Both accounts asked for money to pay for Godwin’s funeral expenses. The first account asked for $5,000 while the second asked for $3,000. No one had contributed to either account yet.
