St Petersburg suicide bomber Akbarzhon Jalilov waited for two hours before detonating his bomb waiting for the perfect moment to kill the greatest number of people.

Security forces said he walked around St Petersburg carrying a backpack containing the bomb before detonating the device on a crowded metro train.

Moments before the device exploded, Jalilov was spotted clenching his fists as if steeling himself for his imminent suicide attack.

REN TV said: ‘Either he couldn’t make up his mind, or he chose the moment when there
were as many people as possible.’

The report said teh Sennaya Ploshad station was not a random target. He waited for the train to pull away from the station before detonating the device.

According to the report: ‘This is the very heart of St Petersburg, where there are many people all
the time, many sights, and, besides, a railway station not far away.

‘Now it has been established that before suicide bombing Dzhalilov left one
more bomb at Ploshad Vosstaniya.

‘The Explosive device disguised as a fire extinguisher didn’t go off. An employee of Rosgvardiya neutralised it risking his life.
Among those killed was 20-year-old Dilbara Aliyeva, a third year student at St Petersburg Railway University.

A source at the university said: ‘Like any girl, she had friends, big plans, and loved life.’
