British sites in America’s biggest city are now being protected by an enormous police presence.

Heavily armed officers and bomb-detecting dogs were deployed to the British Consulate, British Mission to the United Nations, City Hall and Grand Central Terminal.

The precautions have been made in the wake of the terror attack on the Houses of Parliament yesterday.

Four people were killed when a terrorist mowed down several people on Westminster bridge before stabbing a police officer to death.

Police in the UK have carried out a series of raids in response to the attack, arresting eight people in Birmingham and London overnight.

Cops are concerned about copycat assailants, but there was no specific threat to New York City on Wednesday, Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.

“You’ll see a larger presence of the dogs at these locations, as well as [officers] armed with the long guns,” said James Waters, the New York Police Department’s counterterrorism chief.

President Trump has also been briefed about the situation in the UK and New York and spoke to Theresa May to offer his condolences.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson paid his respects to the victims and their families on behalf of the United States.
