TOTAL RETREAT: Merkel begs EU to water down human rights so she can deport MORE migrants

ANGELA Merkel performed yet another stunning U-turn on her open door immigration policy today as she begged eurocrats to water down EU human rights law so she can deport more migrants.

In a joint letter with French leader Francois Hollande the beleaguered German chancellor said she needed be granted more power to deport asylum seekers in order to “combat illegal immigration”.

Mrs Merkel has been retreating at breakneck speed from her controversial open door asylum policy following an alarming slump in the polls and growing unrest amongst voters over the societal impacts of mass migration.

She has already pledged to deport tens of thousands of failed asylum seekers as soon as possible in an attempt to stabilise her declining popularity and fend off the challenge of Martin Schulz.

But this latest move will be seen as her most radical yet, and is likely to raise eyebrows amongst those who have heralded the German leader as a liberal hero following Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.
