Janos Lazar, Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office today introduced the new proposal which would also allow the authorities to detain migrants on the country’s borders as their free movement is officially considered to be a ‘security risk’.
Mr Lazar said: “The Hungarian government is tightening migrant legislation, which will reintroduce the institution of migration control.
“In a mass migration crisis every migrant intending to cross the border illegally or claiming asylum will automatically be arrested by this authority.
“The illegal migrants should stay in a ‘containment unit’.”
The minister said: “Those arrested will be put into containers on the Southern borders of Hungary.
“Each container will hold 200-300 people, and these will be their mandatory residence. The migrants should stay in these container homes until their cases are dealt with.”
Gradually every migrant, who is already in the country, will be relocated to one of these containers until their cases are closed. Currently there are 586 of these migrants in Hungary.
