President Donald Trump apparently gave some insight into why he thinks millions of votes were cast by illegal immigrants this week – a disputed anecdote involving German golfer Bernhard Langer.

The New York Times reports that at a private congressional meeting on Monday, Trump told leaders how either the ‘very famous’ Langer or a friend of his complained to him about not being allowed to vote when others from ‘Latin American’ countries had.

Some aides claimed Trump recounted how Langer told him that people who ‘didn’t look like they should have been allowed’ to vote but he was not.

Another White House official told the newspaper the story involved a friend of Mr Langer’s which had been passed on to the golfer and later told to Mr Trump.
